Help Me Invest for My Retirement This article assumes that you just decided to join your company's 401k plan and want help. Here are the main steps you must complete: - Decide HOW MUCH to invest each pay period.
- Identify WHICH funds to buy.
- Subscribe to our service so that you will know when to buy and when to sell.
- FILL OUT the 401k paper work instructing them what to do.
That's pretty simple! But you might have some questions so we'll consider each step in more detail below. Step 1: How much should you invest each pay period? As much as you can! Saving for retirement is your second spending priority. Your first priority is paying the monthly bills for NECESSARY stuff (not stuff you want but stuff you need). After necessities comes retirement savings. After retirement savings comes the stuff you might want. Get your priorities straight from the beginning.
Step 2: Most 401k plans only offer funds for retirement investment. Our strategy focuses on INDEX funds so we suggest you identify two index funds. Identify one fund based on the Standard & Poors 500 Index (S&P 500) and another on a Broad Bond Index. You can ask your 401k Plan adviser to help you identify these two funds from the list of funds they offer. If your 401k plan doesn't offer these funds ask them to add them. (For now ignore the more complicated retirement strategies.)
Step 3: Based on our monitoring of market trends we identify WHEN to BUY or SELL the two funds you have identified. Knowing the best time to BUY or SELL is critical to your retirement strategy. TimingTruth offers a subscription to this service for a very modest price. Click HERE to subscribe. After you have subscribed we will send you the most up to date BUY and SELL signals for the Indexes you selected in Step 2. (You will need this information in Step 4.)
Step 4: Your last step is to fill out the paper work for your 401k registration. In this registration you will specify the two funds you identified in Step 2. If the S&P 500 Index is a BUY then you will sign up to BUY this fund. If the S&P 500 is a SELL then you will sign up to invest in the Bond Index fund. If the signals change we automatically notify our subscribers via email with our suggestions.
